Book update: cover and interior design

I’d love to hear more feedback as I write the book. I’ve completed final(ish) drafts the following chapters:
- The Real Life Social Network
- Relationships
- Influence
This weekend I’m finishing the chapter on Privacy. Let me know if you’d like to read a draft on any of the chapters and provide feedback!

We have a final cover design:

We’re working on what the interior design looks like (the red star is a comment):

  1. The subject is very interesting. I’m interested in reading the draft and sharing my thoughts. Feel free to email me.

  2. Hey Paul,
Your book looks deadly. Put me down for 2 copies when it’s ready :)
If you’re not over subscribed for draft readers, I’d love to be considered.

    Thanks a mill,
    Des

  3. Paul – I’m really looking forward to the book. I’d welcome the chance to read through draft chapters and provide feedback. Let me know how I can help.

  4. Hi Paul,

This book looks really interesting. Best of luck in the final push.

And I’d love to hear more about it. It sounds very well aligned with some of my past and current work.

  5. Hi Paul

Busy reading your PDF and I am very excited about your upcoming book. Would love to see you elaborate on some of the slides as I have some questions regarding some.

If you still need people to read chapters and provide feedback, please put me on the “list”.

  7. I’d be interested in a galley copy when you get there, if that is available. I found you through that post on Nike and laughed heartily as I wrote a post with a similar sentiment to “get out of my phone”, when I started getting text spam. You must be excited and ready to deliver this project.

  8. I’ve just been trhrough your 216 slides on your social networking v2 – wow, its funny how the obvious only becomes obvious when someone points it out – great deck of slides, very informational, can’t wait for the book to come out

  11. Hi Paul,

Just came across this post. I would be delighted to read your draft (any and all chapters you need help with) and provide feedback!

    Best,

    Sheila

  12. Hi, I got her via your social networking preso. I’d totally be interested in reading a draft of the chapter on privacy – are you still looking for feedback?

  13. I just sent your social networking presentation on Slideshare to about 20 people – pretty much the best summary of social media I’ve seen to this point.

If you still need/want feedback on any chapters, I would love to lend my eyes to the process.

Thanks again for uploading your thoughts to Slideshare!

  14. Thanks everyone for the offers to read drafts, the copy is actually pretty much finalized at this point and we’re into the layout stage of the book.

  15. Last week, I read Paul Adam’s “The Real Life Social Network”. Paul’s insights and ability to document how internet technology and social media tools enable the desires of people is brilliant. His keen understanding and acceptance of decades of research into human behavior and relationships combined with his experience with design and technology powerhouses, dyson and Google make him a must read and follow.

I enjoyed your “Real Life Social Network” presentation so much I had to write an entire blog post wrapped around it.

  21. Hello just wanted to give you a quick heads up. The text in your article seem to be running off the screen in Safari. I’m not sure if this is a format issue or something to do with internet browser compatibility but I figured I’d post to let you know. The style and design look great though! Hope you get the issue solved soon. Many thanks

    Hi there,
Very interested in having a read at it!
Hope the issues with google are soon over
btw: am working on a subject related to valuation online, how people show what they value using likes on facebook or +1 on google… and the lack of negative valuation when pretty much life is about both… if you fancy engaging in a dialogue/search around the subject, let me know… this invitation is open to anyone else with interest in this matter ;-)

  43. I am also very interested, but as a social scientist I am more terrified than satisfied by how social network technology companies exploit our most valuable social capacities. When I am asked what a sociologist do, my answer is that our job is exactly the opposite to that of a marketing specialist’s. They “hide” (their principal’s) real financial and political motives, we are at war with them when trying to uncover these strategies. It is of course not a simple “disclosure” of some “secrets”, it is not a case of a conspiracy, but a complex process by which – in my point of view – the question of democracy and freedom is to be revisited.

  44. Please, let me continue my #43 comment, don’t think of facebook-revolutions and things like “enabling people..”, or “to do bad or good with technology is up to the people” (classical view of nuclear physicists and gene technologists), these are the material effects we all are aware of. What I’d like to talk about is a deeper problem, the very fabric (“form”, the geometry, the web) of society and the mechanisms which parazitize it. It can be easily understood if you think of the predecessors of this technics, e.g. the little less developed but still very sophisticated MLM… There should be something similar to the conservation of energy principle in society therefore any burden (extraction of resources) on this network can cause demage. (Think of the time required to talk about topics determined by external (software) agents. From where will this time be lacking?)
